PVB and SGP are two commonly used intermediate materials in laminated glass. They jointly enhance the safety of the glass, but differ significantly in performance and application.
Commonalities:
1. Safety glass: Both effectively bind glass fragments together when broken, preventing injury from flying debris and meeting safety glass standards.
2. High transparency: Both possess high light transmittance, reaching 85%-90%, and their refractive index is close to that of glass.
3. Applications: Both are popular use for doors, windows, balustrade, wall, skylight, etc., meeting basic safety requirements.
What’s the difference for it?
PVB laminated glass refers to two glass sheets sandwiched with PVB film.
PVB film is a thermoplastic resin film produced by adding plasticizers to PVB resin.
They require higher temperature and humidity control.
PVB has good safety, sound insulation, transparency, and UV resistance properties.
PVB can be customized colors.
SGP laminated glass, at the same thickness, has twice the load-bearing capacity of PVB laminated glass, and its bending deflection is only one-quarter that of PVB laminated glass. The tear strength of the SGP interlayer film is up to five times that of PVB interlayer film. Even if the glass breaks, the SGP film can bond the broken glass together to form a stable temporary structure with small bending deformation and the ability to withstand a certain amount of load, preventing the entire piece from falling.
Thickness Difference:
The PVB film thickness is 0.38mm, 0.76mm, 1.14mm, multiple of 0.38mm.
The SGP film thickness is 0.89mm, 1.52mm, 2.28mm, etc.
Consider the budget cost, PVB laminated glass is more popular use in building, for the In areas with harsh environments, like hurricanes, customers may consider SGP laminated glass.
