Float glass is a type of flat glass produced through a process where molten glass is floated on a bath of molten metal (typically tin) to produce a uniform and consistent thickness, flatness and surface quality.

The production process of float glass mainly includes the following key steps

Preparation of raw materials: firstly, high-quality raw materials such as quartz sand, soda ash, limestone, dolomite and feldspar are mixed in a certain proportion to form glass batch. These raw materials are weighed and mixed to ensure the quality of glass.

Melting: the batch is sent into a furnace and melted at a high temperature of about 1600 C. Melting furnace is the key thermal equipment in glass production, which uses natural gas and other fuels for heating. In the furnace, the batch undergoes melting, clarification, homogenization and other processes to form homogeneous glass liquid.

Float forming: molten glass flows out of the furnace and into the tin bath. In the tin bath, under the action of gravity and surface tension, the glass liquid is spread and leveled on the surface of molten tin, forming a glass ribbon with flat upper and lower surfaces. Tin bath process is the most critical thermal equipment in float glass production, because high-quality glass is realized through tin bath.

Cooling and annealing: the formed glass ribbon is pulled out of the tin bath on the transition roller table and enters the annealing kiln. In the annealing kiln, the glass ribbon undergoes an annealing process to eliminate internal stress and ensure the strength and stability of the glass. During annealing, the glass ribbon undergoes a key heat treatment in a long furnace to reduce the tension generated during cooling.
